James Steps Up When Miami Heat Needed Him Most

Jun 08, 2012 10:35 AM EDT

With their backs against the wall the Miami Heat put their championship hopes on their superstar and 2012 MVP, LeBron James.

James practically did it all for the Heat in this one. He shot 19-26, that is good for 73 percent shooting from the floor. He was dominant on the boards all night and finished hard in the paint.

This was the second time LeBron had scored 40 or more in these playoffs and second time as a Heat overall.

The last time James went for 40-plus points twice in a series was back in 2008-2009 when he had four games with over 40 points scored.

He was a headache for Celtics fans all night, but it was refreshing to see James prove that he is still a dominant player.

It seemed like James was once again in a Cavaliers jersey as he carried his team through the game.

James reputation after last year's Finals was that he was not a closer and unable to play big in pressure situations. However, with his back against the wall in Game 6, he had a strong start and there was no need to decide this one at the buzzer.

With 14 points in the first quarter, James had matched the offensive production of the Celtics and led the Heat to a 10 point lead after one.

Then in the second quarter, he once again answered critics, dropping 16 on the Celtics and finishing up the half with 30 points. This was the most by a Miami Heat in the first two quarters.

His dominant start gave the Heat a 13-point lead at the half and they did not go San Antonio Spurs on the Celtics as they never let Boston back in the game.

Another 45-point performance would not be bad for the Heat, but they are facing a veteran Boston Celtics team will fix their shooting woes.

The Celtics scored 79 points in the first game of the series and followed that up with 111 points in Game 2. That was the night Rajon Rondo went off.

The Heat must come out playing like a team in Game 7 because chances are that the Celtics will come out shooting.
