The Andre Miller trade rumors started a while back when he was suspended for lashing out at Denver Nuggets head coach Brian Shaw and now the Sacramento Kings and the Minnesota Timberwolves appear to be the top teams interested and names like Jimmer Fredette, Marcus Thornton, Jason Thompson or Kevin Martin could be options to move at the deadline.
The Kings have reportedly been the most motivated team to trade for Miller, as they desperately need a backup point guard and now a deal could get closer to being completed as the trading deadline gets closer in February. According to Pro Basketball Talk, the Timberwolves and the Kings are the favorites for a deal and the Nuggets are likely to trade him, as they have not used him since the incident and he has not played since December 30 and a split is best for all parties now.
The Kings are terrible and will be even if they pull off this deal, but they are amassing talent with Rudy Gay and Derrick Williams and adding a veteran like Miller could be huge for young players like DeMarcus Cousins and Isaiah Thomas as well. According to ESPN 1500, Miller is a prime target for the Wolves and many think that he will be traded to either Minnesota or Sacramento before the deadline is up. Fredette is the most likely to move, as the Kings have never been able to figure out how to use him and now that his fourth year option was declined, he will be leaving as a free agent most likely anyway.
The Kings have 13 players after the Gay deal and that means they need to trade players straight up and there is a good chance that the Nuggets will work something out. Thomas is playing very well with 20 points per game and he could use some veteran support and so could Ricky Rubio as the Timberwolves try to make a second half push for the playoffs in the tough western conference. Denver is happy with Ty Lawson at point guard and based on the way that Miller has been used since the incident, the team is just waiting to deal him.
The Phoenix Suns or the Atlanta Hawks could be options as well, while the Washington Wizards are a team that could fit according to ESPN.com. Miller wants to play and the Nuggets want to get rid of him and after the issues with Shaw, it looks like a trade is guaranteed. Miller was rumored to be moving to the Kings earlier but that did not gain traction and now things likely will heat up as the trading deadline gets closer and the date is February 20 for the deadline.
