The New England Patriots have extended Rob Gronkowski to a six-year $54 million contract, making him the highest paid TE in NFL history.
This comes after Gronkowski, just 23 years old, led the entire league in touchdowns with 17. Gronk had phenominal numbers across the board.
Gronkowski was sixth in receivering yards with 1,327. He averaged almost 83 yards a game which tied for seventh in the NFL. Tom Brady used him 69 times to get first downs, ranking him fifth in the league.
With numbers like that, there is no need to wonder why the Patriots were willing to break the bank for Gronkowski. Amongst TEs, Gronkowski was first in yards caught and yards per game. He was second in receptions, beat out only by New Orleans' Jimmy Graham.
Gronkowski showed he had ability to perform well in the NFL after he caught 10 touchdowns in his first NFL season as a Patriot.
Gronk is a huge target for Brady and is pretty agile for his 6' 6," 265 pound build.
Although he was unable to help his team win the Super Bowl after suffering an ankle injury in the AFC game, Gronkowski was tough enough to strap up.
Gronkowski was not a major factor in the game only making two receptions totaling for 26 yards. He was beat out for an interception by Giants LB, Chase Blackburn in the second half.
Gronkowski and Brady can team up and once again terrorize NFL defenses in the upcoming 2013 season and hope to bring a championship back to New England.
