Phoenix Open Leader Board: Bubba Watson Leads Phil Mickelson At Waste Management Golf Tournament

Jan 31, 2014 06:21 PM EST

The Phoenix Open Leader Board has a familiar name at the top with Bubba Watson on top and he leads the Waste Management golf tournament with Matt Jones, while Phil Mickelson it a bit down the board and now both players will try and bring that into the weekend rounds and Watson is now at 12 under after putting in a six under on Friday.

Mickelson had some back issues at the Farmers that forced him to pull out, but he says now that his back is fine and he finished with a three under on the day to have that same score overall and while he is nine strokes back, Mickelson said that he is ready to try and make up for it over the weekend.

Coming into the day on Friday Mickelson was seven strokes back and Watson was leading the way with YE Yang and now Watson is on top after having a great day and now the former Masters champion is looking to get things going this year on Tour with a great start here and it's at the place where Mickelson dominated last year and tied the course record on his way to winning.

Some of the other big golfing names are on the other side of the world, as Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy are playing in the Dubai Desert Classic and they are heading into the third round on Saturday and McIlroy is playing very well and he is in the lead and Woods is down on the leaderboard and this comes after his tough performance last week. Woods is looking to get back on track and both he and McIlroy are looking to get a major after striking out last year.

Woods comes into the tournament after dealing with some rough play at the Farmers Insurance Open last week, as he was terrible in the early goings and ended up with a 79 score at one point and he missed the secondary cut and did not have to play on Sunday. Woods won the tournament last year and he flamed out this time around and he is usually good at Torrey Pines and at the tournament, previously winning it eight times and now he must try to regroup and he said that he felt good on the course. Woods has previously won in Dubai and no one has won that tournament twice and if he can get things together he could be the first repeat champion.
