The Miami Dolphins are into the offseason after dealing with a tumultuous 2013 and now that the Jonathan Martin-Richie Incognito bullying scandal is getting close to its resolution, the team could look to trade Martin and one deal could be for Chris Johnson on the Titans, while the Indianapolis Colts and Seattle Seahawks also fit as potential destinations for the OL.
Martin and Incognito went back and forth in the media over the past month and with the release of text messages between the two and the Ted Wells report on the horizon, both players have questions about their futures and their status with the team. By most reports, writers in the media think that Martin and Incognito both do not have futures with the Dolphins and that means Incognito will likely sign elsewhere, while Miami could look into trading Martin to another team.
According to ESPN.com, Incognito is set to be an unrestricted free agent once the league year begins and that means he can sign with anyone, while Martin, who owner Stephen Ross already said would not be back with the team, could get traded before the season starts in 2014. James Walker at ESPN.com looks at Martin and speculates that the former second round pick could be a trade option for a number of teams, including the Indianapolis Colts, where a solid head coach is in place in Chuck Pagano and his former teammate in Andrew Luck and offensive coordinator in Pep Hamilton from Stanford. While no news has come out from the Colts side, that could be something to explore.
Martin may get a nice amount of flak for how he handled this situation, but that doesn't mean he is a liar or won't be able to handle playing in the NFL again. Martin is signed for two more seasons on his rookie deal and his future with Miami will likely depend on what the Wells report from the NFL says. The Seahawks are a team that could take a chance on Martin, as they have the team structure and leadership in place that the Miami Dolphins are sorely lacking. One thing that could be an issue is the thought by many in the NFL that they would rather have the rough Incognito than the "soft" Martin, but as long as he can prove he can still play, Martin will have a place in this league.
With players like Mike Wallace and Brian Hartline in the locker room in Miami, it is likely that Martin cannot return there after those players publically supported Incognito and basically shamed Martin and threw him under the bus and on top of that, why would Martin want to be around jerks like that anyway? The Titans weren't suggested by Walker, but they have some issues with Chris Johnson and could be on the verge of cutting him due to his contract and since the Miami Dolphin were terrible at rushing the ball last season, they could look into acquiring him.
