The Cleveland Cavaliers have fired general manager Chris Grant after the mess of a season the team has been having and now players like Dion Waiters, Anderson Varejao, Jarrett Jack and Earl Clark could be on their way out of town and teams like the Milwaukee Bucks, Chicago Bulls, Sixers and NY Knicks could be interested.
The news was first reported by Yahoo Sports and comes after the team has made some terrible decisions, including drafting Anthony Bennett at number one and signing Andrew Bynum. Bennett could end up being a great player, but he has been terrible this season after being the number one overall draft pick, while the Bynum situation does not reflect well on Grant either, as the team signed him in the offseason and were very excited about it, but it ended up evolving into a bad situation and he was eventually traded to the Chicago Bulls.
According to ESPN.com, the team now could be even more motivated to move Dion Waiters, who has been mentioned in numerous trade rumors this season, along with players like Varejao and Jack. The deal for Luol Deng has not worked out as expected and that is no fault of Deng, as the team has been basically a mess after coming into the season with expectations that they would compete for as playoff spot in the east. The Cavs now are simply looking to get near .500 and that might be impossible since the team is just 16-33 after losing to the Lakers on Wednesday.
Kyrie Irving is a great player, but he has not been having his best season and that is troubling in his third year and on top of that, he has clashed with Waiters and other players at various times. The whole Waiters situation is not good from Grant either, as he selected him fourth overall two years ago and so far he has not delivered on his potential. According to SI.com, the Bucks could be an option for Waiters and this comes after the Chicago Bulls and Philadelphia 76ers were mentioned as possible destinations earlier in the season. The Bucks are looking to trade Gary Neal and he is disgruntled as well and that could be a deal to explore.
Deng was reportedly shocked at how much of a "mess" the Cavaliers are and now they are in an even deeper hole than expected and could be in the mix for a top overall draft pick once again next season. The team has not fully recovered from LeBron James leaving and now that Grant is done, any plans the team had will have to go to square one. The pick of Bennett is a perplexing one, as no one expected the team to do that and while he could develop into a great player, he has bust written all over him right now with the way he has started this season.
The Cavaliers are well out of things right now and over the next two weeks if they don't get things together, the entire team could get blown up and the way things are going, it's a guarantee that Deng will leave as a free agent.
