Kansas has continued to find ways to win even with inconsistencies in their top scorers. The Jayhawks sit at No. 8 in the nation, but have had to fend off several close battles in order to stay one of the nation's best teams. They will once again be tested as West Virginia comes to town looking to upset the Jayhawks.
Kansas edged Baylor on Tuesday without the help of top players Andrew Wiggins and Joel Embiid. Two of the nation's top players combined to shoot 5 of 19 for just 19 points. That is eight points fewer than what they normally average. Relief came by way of Naadir Tharpe who put up 22 point, but Kansas needs both players to end their slumps.
It was the second straight game both players struggled with shooting. Wiggins went 2 of 12 while Embiid went just 3 of 9, although he did put up 10 rebounds while the team lost to Texas. Head coach Bill Self remains confident the two freshman will get out of their current slumps in order to help the Jayhawks to their 10th consecutive conference title.
West Virginia enters the game against Kansas having won three straight games while beating their last four of five opponents. They knocked off No. 21 Oklahoma on Wednesday while Eron Harris hit a buzzer-beating 3-pointer that sent the game into overtime and got the team a solid win.
Harris currently ranks third in the Big 12 averaging 17.5 points per game. Juwan Staten ranks right above him, putting up 18.1 points per game. The Mountaineers have used them to snap their 16-game losing streak to ranked opponents and now they have a chance to earn another win against Kansas.
The task is certainly scary considering the Jayhawks are 50-1 in Allen Fieldhouse. They have won each game by an average of 20.9 points against unranked teams.
