The NBC Olympics coverage is live online and streaming for figure skating, luge and ski jumping on Sunday and there will be a number of medals still coming during the events on the schedule and heading into the afternoon will be the man's individual ski jump along with the figure skating mixed team event and comes after Team USA won the first gold medal of the games.
The day on Sunday started out with the women's slopestyle snowboarding and continued with ice hockey, which included the host country of Russia playing their first game against Germany. Shaun White stirred some things up when he pulled out of the slopestyle competition, but that didn't stop the Americans from dominating the competition, as Sage Kotsenburg and Jamie Anderson won for the men and women and that put the USA up early in the gold medal count and the athletes have been performing very well, while Canada's Mark McMorris, a favorite for the slopestyle, won the bronze. Kotsenburg had a fantastic run and he won after performing a trick during his course that he had never tried previously and now the snowboarding moves to the halfpipe competition, where White is considered to be the favorite.
Matthias Mayer took gold in the Alpine Skiing men's downhill and Bode Miller finished in eighth after being considered a favorite and now he still has two more chances at getting medals and later in the day on Sunday will be the men's individual ski jump and that will have a medal round as well. Some of the other medals on Sunday included the snowboarding, speed skating, cross country and the luge and heading into this week there are tons of more events going down from Sochi and next week the hockey tournament will start up.
The 27-year-old White took some flak from his fellow riders after dropping out of the slopestyle competition and while he said that he wanted to win two gold medals, his main focus was the halfpipe and that is what he wants to concentrate on. The Sochi Olympics have been a logistical disaster, but the athletes have been performing very well and now the Russian and USA teams ae looking to win the medal count.
