Newcastle United and Tottenham are playing on the English Premier League schedule on Wednesday and the EPL standings has Chelsea on top as the Spurs head to St. James' Park for the matchup that will be streaming live on the NBC Sports Network live extra website and starts up at 2:45 pm ET and 7:45 pm local time for the two sides.
The Spurs come into the match after a win against Everton on Sunday and that was a big deal, as it moved the Spurs up on the league table and now they are a place ahead of Everton as one of the most crucial stretches of the season comes up. Over the next month or so, league titles will likely be decided, as the Blues have overtaken Arsenal in first place for the time being and heading into the break before the FA Cup, the Gunners will be looking to strike back.
Tottenham needs to continue playing well after having a victory and a draw in their last two times out and that came after an embarrassing loss against Manchester City at White Hart Lane. Tottenham has some tough matches coming up and for them to really get into the mix in the Premier League standings for the Champions League or a title, they need to win over the next stretch of matches after the EPL break for 10 days. After that the schedule picks up, as the team has to travel to the Anfield to play Liverpool and they also have a home matchup with Arsenal at White Hart Lane and just before that they will play against Chelsea and that will be at Stamford Bridge and could be a huge match for both sides when things pick up in March.
Tottenham won with one goal on Sunday at White Hart Lane against Everton and now they have three straight matches away from home starting with Newcastle, as they play aganist Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk at Dnipro Arena in the second round of the Europe League and then they play against Norwich City at Carrow Road and that could be tough after the previous two matches. The team then has the return leg at home against Dnipro and after that the Premier League schedule picks up and that is when things get very interesting for the Spurs.
Tottenham head coach Tim Sherwood has said that the team needs Emmanuel Adebayor to keep playing well for any chance to finish in the top four and this comes after the striker was not on the first team earlier in the season. Sherwood has rectified that and has been rewarded with strong play, including the only goal against Everton and now heading into this stretch, he has seven goals in 12 games and could continue on that way and if he does, Tottenham has a chance to make some moves along in the Premier League the rest of this season.
Newcastle comes into the match after a loss to Chelsea and that put the Blues atop the league table and now they are first over Arsenal and Manchester City, while Liverpool is in fourth and Tottenham is fifth.
