Manchester United Transfer News: Nick Powell Signing Close

Manchester United is on the verge of adding another player to their summer haul. According to The Sun, the club will sign teenage forward Nick Powell away from Crewe Alexandra as early as Monday.

Crewe boss Steve Davis expects Powell to be gone soon. Nick is still with us, but I am sure talks are still ongoing with his agent and clubs," Davis told Crewe's official website, www.crewealex.net. "These things take time and rightly so because all parties have to be satisfied with any deal."

Signing with Man U would move the 18-year-old away from his hometown club, which he joined when he was just five-years-old. Crewe has stated that when he leaves, he will not be brought back on loan. This would allow the club to develop their younger players who will be forced to replace Powell.

"One thing I can confirm is that he won't be coming back here on loan," Davis said. "That wouldn't be part of it because we want to bring in a replacement of our own and give our own players, such as [fellow England Under-18 forward] Max Clayton, a chance."

Powell, who represents England's Under-18 club, had a breakthrough campaign last season. He scored 16 goals in 45 appearances and was named Crewe's player of the season.

According to BBC Sports, the transfer fee is four million pounds. The club beat out several other teams interested in the England native.

Crewe plays in England's League One where they finished seventh last season. Manchester United narrowly lost the English Premier League title this year, losing the top spot to Manchester City on the final day of the season.
