North Carolina is patiently waiting for their delayed matchup with rival Duke, but before that they must get through a few other ACC foes before then. A month ago, the Tar Heels were struggling to maintain any sort of win streak after losing to teams like Belmont and UAB, but slowly they are getting their mojo back just in time to face the Florida State Seminoles on Monday night.
After a 1-4 conference start, the Tar Heels have gotten a wake up call that might carry them in the final stretch of the season. They have beaten Clemson, Georgia Tech and NC State, having strung together six-straight wins total in time to meet the Seminoles. Right now, North Carolina is sitting in fourth in the ACC behind Duke, Syracuse and Virginia. If they can get a win against Florida State and then against Duke, they might have a solid shot at playing during March Madness.
Sophomore Marcus Paige continues to carry the team, averaging 4.5 assists and 17.1 points per game. However, no one else is coming close to his kind of numbers. James Michael McAdoo is managing 15.3 points while Leslie McDonald is producing 10.5 points per game, but no one is shooing above 30 percent from beyond the arc. The team's strength is defense, something they intend to ride for the rest of the year.
The Seminoles have been inconsistent throughout the entire year. They have yet to put together a total game of both solid defense and offense. They are getting out rebounded each night and they offense is filled with badly planned shots and misses. Florida State will have home court advantage working in their favor, but getting past the Tar Heels will not be easy.
