Joel Sherman, baseball columnist for the New York Post, has reported that the Chicago Cubs have won the Jorge Soler sweepstakes.
The 20-year old from Cuba signed a 9-year, $30 million contract with the Cubs.
Theo Epstein got his payback after losing, the former Cuban defector, Jose Contreras to the New York Yankees when he was the Boston Red Sox's general manager.
With Soler going starting out in the minor leagues, Epstein and the Cubs now possess two great young talents.
The Cubs are currently letting their first baseman, 23-year old, Anthony Rizzo ripen in the minors. He currently has a .363 batting average, 20 homeruns and 53 RBI.
That is what you call complete domination.
Had Bryan LaHair struggled with the bat, the Cubs might have found themselves needing Rizzo's services, but that is not the case.
Rizzo and Soler could combine to become one of the most feared tandems in baseball.
Do not forget, the Cubs already have a starlet in shortstop Starlin Castro, who is only 22 years of age.
Picking up Soler made a lot of sense for the team, since Castro can guide him and help him become accustomed to the American ways.
Soler would bring speed and a strong arm to the Cubs' outfield.
With another strong bat in the lineup, the Cubs might have set themselves up for greatness in the near future.
