Pierre Jackson has come up in numerous trade rumors heading into the deadline and teams like the Miami Heat, Cleveland Cavaliers, Washington Wizards and Atlanta Hawks could be options and the Cavs may package Dion Waiters in a deal for the Pelicans point guard wasting away in the D-League.
Jackson has been lighting it up in the D-League and he put in a record 58 points in one game and has been averaging nearly 30 points per game all season and now he is getting some extra attention on the market. According to the Akron Beacon Journal and SB Nation, the Cavaliers have started to show interest in acquiring Jackson and this comes as the team could be looking to trade Jarrett Jack and this could be a way of making up for that slight loss in production.
Jackson's rights are held by New Orleans and he has been stuck down in the minors due to the fact that the team came into the season with Tyreke Evans, Jrue Holiday and Austin Rivers there already and now he could be on the move. ESPN.com mentioned Jackson as a potential trade target for the Miami Heat, but so far no movement has come on that front. The Heat reportedly are not taking offers on Norris Cole despite interest and they feel comfortable with the team they have going forward despite the questions about Dwyane Wade's knees.
The Journal report says that the Brooklyn Nets and Sacramento Kings have looked into trading for Jack and this deal could be contingent on that one going down. Jackson has been playing very well and he could easily step in for Jack, who is averaging less than 10 points per game and is owed $12.6 million guaranteed for the next two years. The deal would involve Jason Terry and he comes in with a contract less than $6 million fir this season and he is averaging less than five points per game for the Nets and could provide some veteran leadership for a team that desperately needs it.
Jackson was drafted by the Sixers and traded and the Pelicans have not signed him since they have the max amount of roster players and that could lead to another deal. Jackson has expressed his desire of getting into the NBA finally and a trade at the deadline could facilitate that. The Nets and Kings are looking into deals and the Cavaliers have talked about the possibility of snagging Jason Thompson or Marcus Thornton from Sacramento.
The players would be solid moves for the Cavs and they also are rumored to be shopping Dion Waiters. Thornton makes $8 million and then $8.7 million next season and while he is averaging more points that Jack, he is shooting under 40 percent and does not look like the same player he was when he averaged nearly 20 points a couple years ago. Jackson is a hot name right now and he could get moved at the deadline if the Pelicans like the compensation.
