The NY Knicks have been mentioned quite a bit in trade rumors at the deadline and heading into Thursday, Beno Udrih, Iman Shumpert and Tyson Chandler have all been connected to possible deals and some teams that could get involved include the Denver Nuggets, Washington Wizards and LA Clippers.
The rumors always heat up the night leading into the deadline and this year is no different, as ESPN.com writer Marc Stein reports that the Knicks are in the mix on a number of moves, including with the Clippers for Darren Collison, which would include Shumpert and they also have potential interest in Jeremy Lin and Rajon Rondo. The latter two deals are nearly impossible for the Knicks, but ESPN.com and other website have reported on it, so don't act like we are just making this stuff up.
The Knicks don't have the assets or the cap room to make a deal for those two players, but that hasn't stopped potential interest in a deal and the more likely moves involve Shumpert and Udrih. The Knicks won last night against the New Orleans Pelicans, but they have been pretty awful this season and making a trade could be one way for the team to try and turn things around. Udrih signed with the team in the offseason and it looked like a smart move to add depth at point guard, but he has not really meshed with head coach Mike Woodson and has been in the dog house a bit and that could lead to a move and the Wizards have shown interest in adding a point guard at the deadline to play behind John Wall. The Denver Nuggets have also shown interest in a
The Knicks have a tough road to climb to get back into things in the east and now they could try and pull off a deal to do that involving Shumpert for Collison. The Knicks repeatedly have put Shumpert in deal talks and while the move could be a good one, it really makes no sense, as Shumpert is the best young asset the team has and they never are going to get truly great again if they continue to trade away every young star they draft and develop.
The Wizards are looking to make a move and so are the Nuggets, as they have had issues with Andre Miller and need some depth at point guard and the team is also looking to potentially trade Kenneth Faried. The Knicks have been connected to Faried and Miller in the past and they could get in on a deal but it's more likely they will explore the Clippers move.
The Knicks were in the middle of talking two trades heading into the deadline and the Clippers move likely would include Raymond Felton and Shumpert for Darren Collison and Matt Barnes. The Clippers are motivated to make a deal heading into the deadline and the Knicks could move both their point guards in Udrih and Felton, as both have fallen out of favor with Mike Woodson. The team is 21-33 on the season and they play the Magic on Friday and the trade deadline could have a big effect on how this season turns out.
