The NASCAR Budweiser Duels are live Thursday from the Daytona 500 and the qualifying Duels for the race will set the lineup for the Sprint Cup start to the season and will be streaming online from FOX Sports 1 starting up at 7 pm ET and the second race will go on right after around 8:30 pm ET and it comes after Austin Dillon won the pole for the event.
Last year another rookie in Danica Patrick won the pole in her first Sprint Cup event and now it's new blood two years in a row and the star was in an old costume, as he was in the number three car and he is bringing that back to the track after Dale Earnhardt. Dillon had the fastest time in qualifying last week ahead of Martin Truex and that puts him front and center on Sunday in the top position, while Patrick will be in the exact opposite place from last year, as she had some engine issues and due to rules she will be in the back part of the field.
The Duels come before the real start of the season and on Friday will be the Camping World Truck Series and that comes before the opening Nationwide Series race and that will be 120 laps and 300 miles. The Great American Race starts up at 1 pm on Sunday on FOX and will be streaming online and it will be 500 miles of pure track and 200 laps and the race is very anticipated this season.
Practice for the race this week got started off in some wild fashion, as the Dayton 500 session saw seven cars get into an accident and it also put a hole in the grandstand fence and that is never the way drivers want to start things off. There were some injuries last season when there was a crash in the Nationwide race and this time around it was during the first session of practice and came after Matt Kenseth accidentally started things off and that put practice on the chopping block for the rest of the day. Joey Logano shelled out blame at Kenseth for the crash and said that drifting up the track was the reason for the issues. Parker Kligerman had his own take and said it was Logano who was being too aggressive on the track.
Tony Stewart and Patrick are teammates and they will be in the same spot for the Duels and the Daytona 500 on Sunday, as they were hit with rules violations and will be in the back no matter where they finish in qualifying. Both drivers had issues with their engines and according to ESPN.com, Patrick had to make a change heading into the week after practice and that was why she got hit, as the rules say that she made an unapproved change and that will push her back.
Both Stewart and Patrick were annoyed and frustrated about what happened, but they took it in stride and Stewart said the team would make the best of it. It is a total change from Patrick last year, as she finished eighth for the best female finish and was the first woman driver to compete and win the pole at Daytona and she also led laps. Patrick finished in the top 10 and now she will struggle just to get in the middle of the pack and this all comes after the Richard Petty comments and Stewart hit back and said the two should race. Chris Evans from Captain America will be the grand marshal on Sunday at Daytona.
