Paris St Germain have joined the pursuit for Luka Modric, with coach Carlo Ancelotti sending scouts to Euro 2012.
According to the Daily Mail, financial powerhouses PSG are ready to offer much more than what Manchester United are ready to pay for the Croatian midfielder, who impressed in his country Croatia's 3-1 win over Republic of Ireland.
Modric is keen to leave Tottenham after the North London club failed to secure Champions League qualification for the second-straight season. The uncertainty surrounding the future of manager Harry Redknapp has further led many to believe Tottenham's stars will look to move to pasture anew in the summer. Redknapp, who has just one year remaining on his current deal, wants a new contract, but has not been offered one as yet. The Englishman also has a reportedly frosty relationship with chairman Daniel Levy.
Gareth Bale is also understood to want a move away from Spurs, with Barcelona, Manchester City and Real Madrid monitoring his situation keenly.
Modric was on the verge of a move last summer, but a reported $60 million bid from Chelsea was rejected by Tottenham.
PSG scouts checked on the Croatian in the match against Ireland and the French club, which finished second in the French League last season, are ready to offer 30 million pounds ($46 million) while United have reportedly tabled a 25 million pound ($36.6 million) bid, with it rising to 30 million based on appearances and success. PSG are also close to signing Ezequiel Lavezzi from Napoli after agreeing a fee in excess of $35 million with the Italian club.
United fans are already worried about what they see as the club's diminished ability to compete in the transfer market and if they lose out on Modric, it is sure to cause further uproar among the supporters.
