The US and Canada are playing on Friday at the Olympics in the semifinals and the United States men's team is looking to advance to the gold medal game and comes as Team USA has not lost yet and the matchup will be streaming from Sochi on NBC and the NBCSN starting at 12 pm noon ET and gives the men a chance to get past the defending Canadian champs, something the women's team could not do.
One reason the United States has been playing so well has to do with the performance of goalie Jonathan Quick, who has proven to be excellent at his first Winter Games. Last time around, Ryan Miller played MVP level and took the team to the gold medal game against Canada in Vancouver, but the US could not pull it out and now Canada has another chance to get there. The gold medal game in 2010 is considered to be the best ever and it went into overtime after hard fought game in regulation and the Canadians won it and now they ate looking for a second straight gold medal.
Sweden came into their semifinals game as the favorite after winning the gold medal back in 2006 in Turin and that gives them a good chance to advance. The United States will start Jonathan Quick and Canada has Carey Price and he is also playing very well. The team comes in scoring in bunches and the Canadians have done it more with defense and now the two teams get the chance to face off in Sochi.
Dustin Brown scored the winning goal for the United States against the Czech Republic and that game put the team into the semifinals and now the US has made it through once again and this is the third time they have made it in the past four years. The team is looking to get gold and the offense will be the primary focus on both sides and now that John Tavares is out for Canada the team will have dig deeper to get what they need and naturally the Islanders are mad, but that is how it goes. The Canadians were able to squeak by some of their opponents and the US was just nasty on offense, scoring five and seven goals in a game and now that could be where the game is decided on Friday.
Tavares injured his knee at the Olympics and it came during the quarterfinals in the game against Latvia and now he will be out for the team and he tore the MCL and meniscus in his left knee and now the Americans have a slight advantage with the third leading scorer of the NHL out of action. Jonathan Quick has the chance to cap things off this Olympics with another great performance and these matchups come before the bronze medal game on Saturday and that will be at 10 am, while the gold medal game comes on Sunday on NBC and will be streaming from NBC at 7 am ET.
