Manchester United Transfer News: Lewandowski Will Not Move to United, Say Dortmund

Jun 12, 2012 05:46 AM EDT

Borussia Dortmund denied their star striker Robert Lewandowski was on his way to Manchester United.

Polish forward Lewandowski has been heavily linked with United and the speculation grew last week when Poland manager Franciszek Smuda said he would move to the Red Devils.

Smuda also said Dortmund's other two Polish internationals Jakub Blaszczykowski and Lukasz Piszczek were also leaving the German champions for the English Premier League and Real Madrid respectively.

However, Dortmund's chief executive Hanz Joachim Watzke rubbished the rumors. "It does not matter if we are to receive bids," he told Sportinformationsdienst.

"I have said for weeks that Robert will be back in training with our club after Euro 2012 and his holiday leave. And this is what will happen.

"I am sick of these speculations. I really don't care what the rumors are in the media of Poland.

"I have a detailed knowledge of media in Poland and, therefore, I know how I have to classify those reports."

Smuda said last week: "In my opinion, in a moment they will be gone from Borussia.

"Lewy is going to Manchester United, Kuba also somewhere in England, Piszczek to Real.

"They have a goal and they want to grow. I base the squad on them."

Watzke suggested Smuda was misquoted. "I go way back with Smuda for years. We have a good relationship. I do not think he has said things like that."

Lewandowski refused to comment on the speculation when asked, saying he was only concentrating on Euro 2012. "I'm not going to concentrate on these issues. Euro 2012 is the priority. I'm totally focused on the national team," he said after Poland's opening game against Greece.
