The Kirk Cousins trade rumor mill is spinning again and after the Washington Redskins said they had no intention of trading the QB, Cousins himself took to the airwaves to say that he wanted to compete to be a starter and if the team opts to deal him, the Cleveland Browns, Houston Texans, Jacksonville Jaguars, Buffalo Bills, Minnesota Vikings and Buccaneers all could be options.
Pro Football Talk reported on the interview, which had Cousins state on the radio that he hoped to be able to compete for a starting job in the NFL and while he did not ask for a trade, with Robert Griffin III already firmly in as the starter, clearly another team would enable that top happen. The Redskins have been smart though, as they have said they want to keep Cousins and that could prompt a team to try and "wow" them with a trade. Reports came out that the team would be willing to take a second round pick for him in a deal, but Jay Gruden may want to keep Cousins in house as insurance for Griffin, who was injured last season and eventually was shut down.
Cousins has shown that he is a capable quarterback in the league after starting a handful of games last season and his comments basically were that he wanted to be able to compete for a job in the NFL and that is "all I've really wanted", he said. It makes sense from a player standpoint, as he wants to be on the field and playing, but the Redskins hold all the cards and if they feel like keeping him, in Washington is where he will remain.
Cousins added on the radio that he is comfortable in Washington and that he loves playing in DC, but clearly the man actually wants to play and doesn't want to be second fiddle behind RG3, especially if he is good enough to start. Teams that could be interested in Cousins include the Cleveland Browns, Houston Texans, Jacksonville Jaguars, Buffalo Bills, Minnesota Vikings and Buffalo Bills, as they all have top 10 picks and all could be looking at QBs. One of those teams could be willing to part with a high draft pick for him and that could be favorable to the Redskins, as they had to give up their number two pick this season to the Rams after the RG3 trade.
Cousins has had the chance to start some games over the past two seasons, as he has played in eight games and has passed for 1,320 yards and eight touchdowns with 10 interceptions and that could get a team interested. While he hasn't been off the charts, he could be an upgrade for a number of those teams and depending on how the draft plays out, Cousins could be on the move.
