Naturally when Metta World Peace was officially waived by the New York Knicks he announced his desire to re-sign with a contender for the remainder of the season. Just like every other veteran in the league, World Peace wants one last chance at a championship before he calls it a career. However, it looks like he might just get his wish in the next few weeks.
According to Sam Amick of USA Today Sports, the Los Angeles Clippers are interested in taking a look at World Peace. He reports the move is certainly not a slam dunk, but with World Peace's buyout complete, the team is looking to acquire a few more players and consider him one of the best available.
The Los Angeles Clippers are in buying mode right now. After it was reported by Yahoo Sports that the team missed out on acquiring Iman Shumpert at the trade deadline, they are looking to add bodies to the roster. The Clippers have already finalized a deal for Glen Davis who was bought out by the Orlando Magic and are still looking for at least two more players to take on.
ESPN.com reports Doc Rivers is currently sorting through available free agents and possibly available free agents to fill the remaining roster sports before March 1st arrives. World Peace is currently available, as is Ben Udrih who was also released from the Knicks. Udrih can certainly be productive for a team if given the opportunity and could be a solid shooting threat for the Clippers.
Rivers is planning on being patient. Teams are still waiting to see whether the Philadelphia 76ers buy out the contract of Danny Granger who is expected to garner plenty of attention in the free agent market. Ben Gordon could also be available. The Charlotte Bobcats are toying with the idea of releasing the shooting guard after failing to complete a trade for him.
World Peace has expressed the desire to sign with teams like the Indiana Pacers or the Miami Heat. Since both teams are sitting at the top of the Eastern Conference, he wants to join a winning program. One team not interested in World Peace is the Brooklyn Nets. Amick reports the Nets have no interest in bringing on World Peace for the second half of the season. He is only averaging 4.8 points and 2.0 rebounds in 29 games as knee injuries have become a real issue for the veteran.
