Martin Brodeur may have been beaten, but he doesn't appear to be finished. After surrendering 5 goals (6 including an empty net score) in what would be the final game of the Stanley Cup Finals, the Devils net minder quelled speculation that last night was his last appearance as an active player.
"This season answered a lot of questions about where my game's at," said Brodeur during a press conference following the loss. "And I'm really happy to hopefully continue."
Brodeur also mentioned that the Conn Smythe Trophy winner, Johnathan Quick, has no desire to see Brodeur hang up the stacked pads. "He wanted to make sure I didn't retire. I guess he likes beating me." joked a surprisingly humorous Brodeur.
The Devils were hoping to extend the series to a 7th and final game, which would have required a historic three game come back after being down three to open the final round. But New Jersey was unable to stop the bleeding when the Kings scored three goals during a five minute power play that resulted from a Steve Bernier boarding penalty.
While Brodeur's future has been made a bit clearer, it is still not certain that the Devils will opt to sign him to another contract. Both he and Zach Parise are scheduled to be free agents this July.
