At one point this season, North Carolina's season look all but done. The team had a few costly losses to their name, dropping them out of the Top 25 poll. However, nine-straight wins have certainly turned things around and now the Tar Heels need just two wins in their final four games to clinch a double-bye in conference tournaments. They will certainly be tested on Wednesday night as they head on the road to face in-state rivals, NC State.
North Carolina is back in the polls at No. 19 thanks to their win streak. Starting off 1-4 in ACC play is certainly a memory of the past as they have gone 4-0 since then. They are fresh off a blowout win over Wake Forest after shooting 57.4 percent and going 11 of 15 from beyond the arc. They put up 105 points in their highest scoring effort this season. Leslie McDonald led the effort with 19 points as six players reached double-figures over the weekend in the win.
The Tar Heels will certainly be tested in this final stretch of games. Three of their final four games will be on the road. The Tar Heels are 4-4 in true road games this season, while having three of those losses come to conference opponents. Heading on the road to face the Wolfpack will be no easy task despite beating the team earlier in the season.
North Carolina State has the conference's top scorer in TJ Warren who is averaging 23.3 points per game. In the last four games, he is averaging 27.0 points while putting up 31 over the weekend against Virginia Tech. The Wolfpack have won four-straight games and while that does not compare to the nine from North Carolina, it means something when the team has homecourt advantage.
