Miami and Virginia are playing in an ACC college basketball matchup on ESPN3 on Wednesday night and the game comes as the Cavaliers are looking to try and lock up the conference and they have a lead over the Syracuse Orange as the Hurricanes come to town and the game starts up at 7:00 PM ET and comes live from the John Paul Jones Arena.
Virginia has been playing very well this season and in a conference with Duke, Syracuse and North Carolina they have been the most consistent team and right now they are in first place by a game with a huge matchup looming against Syracuse. Virginia can basically lock up the title in the regular season with a win against Syracuse and they come into this game as the top ranked defense in the nation with 55 points allowed per game and they are coming in after a win against Notre Dame.
Malcolm Brogdon has been leading the team in scoring and he has been playing very well and he is averaging 12 points per game and is shooting over 42 percent from the field. Akil Mitchell and Anthony Gill had 15 points each against the Irish and they will be relied on again when the team plays against the Hurricanes. The Hurricanes have not been as good as last season, as they lost their top five scorers from last year and now they are looking to get another statement win after they already defeated North Carolina and Florida State. Mitchell is tops on the team in rebounding and he is averaging nearly seven per game and he will be a player Miami needs to watch out for.
Virginia has only lost one game in the conference and that was a close one to Duke and now they have to get past this game to set up the crucial matchup against Syracuse and that one will be at home. The two teams have not played yet this season and after that game, Virginia finishes up their schedule in the regular season with a game against Maryland.
Miami has been up and down for the most part this season and they are scoring just 61 points per game and they will have to do much better than that for a chance on Wednesday. The team won over the Boston College Eagles in their last game and then will play on the road against North Carolina State next.
