On paper, the Florida vs. South Carolina matchup might look like nothing to be concerned about, but the Gamecocks are coming off a big win over ranked Kentucky and look to play upset to the top-ranked Gators as they head on the road to Columbia. Florida has already clinched the SEC regular-season title, but their No. 1 ranking could be in jeopardy if they over look South Carolina on Tuesday.
The SEC title is the first for Florida in four years. The has set a school record for 27 wins with 21 consecutive wins and 31 wins at home. Their impressive season will mean nothing though if the Gators fail to stay focused with conference tournaments approaching, something head coach Billy Donovan is worried about.
The Gators are hoping to become the first team to go undefeated in conference play as they prepare to face South Carolina on the road and then Kentucky at home to wrap up the regular season. It would also secure the Gators a No. 1 in the NCAA tournament, something the team would love after three-straight losses in regional finales. Florida dominated South Carolina at home earlier in the season and hope to do the same.
Florida's roster of almost all seniors could be playing a big roll in their dominance. The team is deep in scoring and looking to make a run in March Madness as they pose a real threat to winning it all this year. Injuries were an issue earlier, but everyone appears to be getting healthy at the right time. Casey Prather's ankle is healed. KAsey Hill is back from a groin injury while Patric Young is recovering well from knee tendonitis. All of this will play a factor for the team down the stretch.
The Gamecocks snapped a three-game losing streak by beating the Kentucky Wildcats at home over the weekend. It was the team's first win over a Top 25 opponent in three years causing the students to storm the court and get fined. Can South Carolina play upset once again?
