The Kansas Jayhawks have several seniors playing their final home game of their college careers. Many of those players fans have never heard of, but everyone knows Andrew Wiggins and it is safe to assume the freshman is also stepping foot in Allen Fieldhouse for the last time as well. After a tough loss to Texas over the weekend, the Jayhawks are in need of a bounce back win and hope to do it against Texas Tech.
This is not the first time that head coach Bill Self has had a freshman take part in senior night. Just a year ago Ben McLemore left early and then turned into the seventh overall pick in the NBA draft. Thomas Robinson left after his junior season. Self plans on acknowledging the freshman's contributions, understanding that Wiggins is projected to leave after the season and could easily be taken as the No. 1 overall pick in the upcoming NBA draft.
While Wiggins is certainly the marquee name of the group, several seniors have made an impact throughout the year. Tarik Black might be the best of the senior class. He averages 4.3 points and 3.1 rebounds in his limited action. Niko Roberts is normally used in mop-up duty while Justin Wesley is normally one of the first big men off the bench. Meanwhile, Wiggins is up for Big 12 player of the year despite not totally meeting expectations his freshman year after being the No. 1 overall recruit.
The Jayhawks have already wrapped up the regular-season title, but are looking for a strong finish heading into the conference tournament. Texas Tech will not pose too much of a threat, especially playing the Jayhawks at home. The team is on a five-game losing streak that started with a loss the Kansas thanks to a last-minute layup by Wiggins. The Red Raiders have lost 13 games at Allen Fieldhouse and should not expect the streak to get broken on Wednesday.
