The PGA Tour 2014 schedule hits Doral Thursday and the tee times for the WGC-Cadillac Championship for Tiger Woods, Adam Scott, Rory McIlroy, Phil Mickelson an others starts up just after 11 am from TPC Blue Monster and comes after the number one player in the world won this tournament last year and he will be active after an injury.
Woods was expected to be a question mark after having to withdraw from the Honda Classic with a back injury, but after getting checked out he was cleared to play at Doral and now he will tee off at the same time as Adam Scott, playing at 12:39 PM ET on Thursday. Scott can take the number one ranking with a win at Doral and that would be huge for him and that would take it back from Tiger Woods, who was able to wrestle it away from McIlroy last year while winning five times on tour.
Woods has not started off this year quite as well as last season, as he finished 80th at the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines, a tournament he won last year and he also finished 41st in Dubai before the Honda Classic and now he is back at Doral, looking to rebound ahead of the Masters. Last year Woods was playing well into the Masters, but after his controversy with the drop shot, he was out of things and now Scott, who won the Masters, can move up to number one with a win and he comes in after winning four times around the world last year.
Scott needs to win and Woods needs to finish sixth or worse and at this tournament there will be all the players in the top 50 and Scott said he is motivated by the rankings. Scott was on a six week break coming into the Honda Classic and now he will play with Woods at Doral in perfect timing. Woods nearly didn't make it, but he opted to defend his title after working out earlier in the week and now he looking for his 80th win at a place he knows well.
Woods has had a rough start to the year and now he comes in after withdrawing after 13 holes on the final day at the Honda Classic. Two years ago, he had to leave Doral due to an injury and last season he won and after withdrawing for just the sixth time in his career, he will be ready to go for the first round on Thursday.
