Brandon Browner has been reinstated by the NFL and he will be a free agent this offseason and teams like the Philadelphia Eagles, Minnesota Vikings, Chicago Bears, Denver Broncos or Green Bay Packers could be options for the former Seattle Seahawks cornerback, even with him serving four games of a suspension to start the season.
Browner previously had been suspended for an entire year, but after threatening to bring his case to court because he technically shouldn't have been suspended, the league brought him back. Browner was initially suspended after a first violation and he was pushed to a higher punishment level after not submitting drug tests, but he was in the CFL and not looking for an NFL job and he felt he should have been exempted and at least not placed in a higher stage of penalty for what he felt was a technical reason. The NFL clearly agreed and part of the deal has him opening the season with a four game suspension.
Browner will be a nice target on the market, as he has great size and was a former Pro Bowl player and while he will be suspended for the first four games, teams like the Eagles, Raiders and Buccaneers could use his services. The Vikings, Bears and Packers all finished in the bottom part of the league in passing yards allowed and adding Browner could be a nice move for those teams if they can't get some of the top players on the market.
Browner missed time last season with the suspension and now he will be back in the league and after serving those four games, he will be eligible to play. Browner was a Pro Bowl player back in 2011 and he now is an unrestricted free agent and as one of the taller corners in the NFL, his size could be a huge advantage for a number of teams. The Seattle Seahawks showed with Browner and Richard Sherman that tall and physical corners can be successful and that should give Browner plenty of suitors. Browner had six picks back in 2011 while playing in all 16 games and last season he played in eight and had just one pick and he has 10 career interceptions.
The Eagles ranked last in the league in passing yards allowed last season and that could put them in the mix for someone like Browner, while the Dallas Cowboys were third worst in the league and they just freed up $10 million in cap space by working on Tony Romo's contract. The Oakland Raiders and Denver Broncos also ranked in the bottom 10 in passing yards allowed per game and the Buccaneers could be in the mix if they opt to trade Darrelle Revis.
