The USA team participating in the World Baseball Classic has just named Joe Torre their manager for the tournament.
Joe Torre, who is currently the executive vice president for baseball operations, will return to the field and manage the USA team.
So far, the USA has had poor performances in the two tournaments they have been a part of.
In 2006 they did not get out of the 2nd round and in 2009 they were a game away from the Finals.
The USA ended up dropping the semifinals match against Japan, 9-4.
Japan has won the WBC's first two tournaments.
Torre has not managed since 2010, when he retired from baseball as a Los Angeles Dodgers.
His most successful tenure came with the Yankees, when Torre managed in New York from 1996-2007. He won the franchise their first World Series in 15 years as soon as he took over.
Torre will go down as one of the best managers in the Majors and hopefully he can bring the winning culture to a USA team that will try to show that they indeed possess the best players in the world.
The WBC begins qualifying matches from September 20th until November 18th and countries will be divided into four pools.
