New Jersey Nets: Gerald Wallace Opts Out, Who Should be Interested

Jun 14, 2012 04:53 PM EDT

Thursday afternoon Gerald Wallace was no longer a part of the New Jersey Nets after he opted out of his $9.5 million player option.

Wallace played 16 games for the Nets and averaged 15 points and close to seven rebounds a game.

He came over from the Portland Trail Blazers in March for a first-round draft pick. A move Nets fans really did not understand.

Wallace just turned 29 and said he will not play with just a one-year contract.

For teams on the hunt, Gerard Wallace provides veteran leadership. He has 11 years in the league as he made his debut at the age of 19.

He has never averaged more than 20 points a game in a season, but he can rebound and has averaged almost a block a game in his career.

There is doubt that he would play off the bench for a team, but some clubs can use his youth, like the Dallas Mavericks.

Shawn Marion is already 34 and his offense has progressively been declining.

The Cleveland Cavaliers could use Wallace's experience. Team him up with Rookie of the Year Kyrie Irving and who knows what may happen.

Wallace is a solid baller with a couple of years left. Teams hunting for the playoffs should try getting him on their club.
