Pittsburgh and Virginia are playing live in the ACC Conference Tournament semifinals on Saturday afternoon and the Cavaliers come in as regular season champs and the Panthers are playing well and now the two teams face off on ESPN at 1 pm ET from the Greensboro Coliseum and it's streaming from WatchESPN online.
The Cavaliers won the ACC conference title in the regular season after beating Syracuse and now the Orange are out of the tourney after losing to NC State and now Virginia is looking to win to play either the Wolfpack or Duke in the finals and that game will be later on Saturday. Virginia comes in after a win against Florida State and their defense came through once again like it has all season and Malcolm Brogdon had another nice game and they allowed just 51 points from the Seminoles and he led the team in rebounding and assists for the matchup and now he will be key against the Tigers.
Virginia had a very good season this year and so did the Panthers and the Cavs come in 26-6 on the season and 16-2 in the conference, while Pittsburgh comes in 25-8 and 11-7 in the conference and coming in they are scoring just over 65 points per game and they have made it here on the strength of their defense. Brogdon has been having a great year and he leads the team in scoring with 12 points and shooting 42 percent, while he is second in rebounding and assists and he has been one of the most impressive players in the nation this season.
The team is ranked first overall in the nation in defense by points per game and they have been relentless all year and this will give them a chance to play another top team ahead of the NCAA tournament at the end of the month and they had a fantastic stretch in the ACC earlier in the year winning all their games after a January 13 loss to Duke at Cameron Indoor Stadium before losing to Maryland in overtime and that was on the road as well.
The ACC has been one of the toughest conferences in the nation and teams like Duke, North Carolina and Syracuse all could be strong in the NCAa tournament and now the Cavaliers are looking to get the ACC tournament title and the regular season title in the same year and that would give the team a huge boost heading into March Madness. The team won 13 games in a row at one point and they are now playing against the Panthers before Selection Sunday and Pitt comes in after a nice win against UNC and they won by five and got a great game from Zanna, who led the team in scoring, rebounds and assists and now they will be looking to get into the finals of the conference tourney. Zanna was tops in rebounding and second in scoring this season for the team and he will be key for Pitt on Saturday.
