Albany and Mount St. Mary's are playing live on Tuesday to start the NCAA Tournament First Four game for the first round of March Madness and the game is streaming online and on TV from truTV starting up at 6:40 pm ET in Dayton and this game will be in the South region and the winner plays against the number one overall seed in the Florida Gators in the next round.
The Gators are considered by many to be the favorite from the South and one of the favorites for the overall tournament and this comes after they went through the SEC undefeated and they won the conference title over Kentucky by one point over the weekend. Albany battled their way into the tournament and now the Great Danes will be looking to make a splash and this comes after they won over Stony Brook in the America East Conference and they come into the game scoring 66 points per game and they are on a three game winning streak overall.
Mount comes in after a win against Robert Morris and the Colonials got sent to the NIT and now they will try and get into the next round against Florida as well. The team is ranked in the top 50 in the nation in scoring with over 75 points per game and that means they will be tough to hold back and Albany will have to play some stellar defense to keep that up. The team is ranked 60th in steals per game with over seven and Albany comes in allowing 63 points per game and that ranked in the top 40 this season and that makes this a very solid matchup on both sides of the floor, especially when the Danes are on D.
Albany comes in with a number of Australians on the roster and Sam Rowley comes in averaging 11 points per game to rank second on the team and they are hoping they can get past Mount to get into the second round. The Mount has been one of the best three point shooting teams in the nation and they have thrown up nearly 800 this season according to the AP and the game could be decided on that and how many they hit.
The NCAA Tournament officially gets started for real on Thursday after the play in games and the number one seeds in Florida, Arizona, Wichita State and Virginia are excited to get going. The Gators were undefeated in the SEC and won the conference tourney, while Virginia won the ACC and Arizona fell in the Pac-12 title game. Wichita State comes into things undefeated and that matches what UNLV did years ago and now in a bracket with Duke, Louisville and Michigan they will truly get tested for the first time.
