Terrelle Pryor understands that in the NFL, he controls nothing. The quarterback has not exactly had the easiest road as a professional, but after earning the starting spot for the Raiders last season, things were looking. Pryor showed plenty of promise until he got injured and Matt McGloin excelled in his spot. As trade rumors begin to swirl, Pryor is doing his best to block it out.
For what it is worth, Pryor told TMZ that he is not worried about the rumors that he will soon be traded or released by the Oakland Raiders. The quarterback simply said, "I can't really worry about the things I can't control." Pryor went on to say that he is working incredibly hard to earn a starting job next season while includes working with quarterback guru Travelle Gaines.
If Pryor is going to be a starting quarterback next season, it likely will only happen with the Oakland Raiders. The team has been hanging him has trade bait and so far not one team has made an offer. The Raiders need a starting quarterback next season and it is becoming more clear that Pryor is not included in that picture meaning the quarterback will likely be gone in the next few weeks.
If Pryor is gone and Dennis Allen is not putting all of his eggs in the McGloin basket, who starts under center in Week 1? According to local radio station, SportsRadio 610, the Houston Texans and Raiders are negotiating a deal for Matt Schaub. Garrett Heinrich of Houston's CBS Local reports the talks have become more serious and a deal could be made in the coming days.
The Texans have been looking to get rid of Schaub, mainly because of his $10.5 million salary cap hit in 2014. While the team needs a veteran to help whichever rookie they opt to draft, Schaub is simply too expensive. The Raiders have $59.9 million in available cap space. Adding a quarterback to the roster can never hurt for them.
Bleacher Report notes that the Raiders are still trying to actively shop Pryor in a deal before they replace him with Schaub. There is no interest at the moment, but if he is released then Pryor could find himself on a team pretty quickly.
Getting Schaub would set the Raiders up well to draft a rookie. The veteran could start right away while a rookie develops or be a valuable mentor to a young player.
