NY Jets Rumors: Mark Sanchez Released After Michael Vick Free Agency Visit? Houston Texans Deny Matt Schaub Trade as QB Target for Geno Smith Backup

Michael Vick finally has a team visit scheduled. The quarterback, who was considered the best available at one point, has watched Josh McCown, Matt Cassel, Chad Henne and even Brandon Weeden all sign new deals in free agency while he could not even get a visit on the calendar. However, that appears to be changing as interest is starting to peak in the second week of free agency.

According to Eliot Shorr-Parks of NJ.com, Vick is scheduled to visit the New York Jets over the weekend. Let the fun begin. The Jets quarterback situation is nothing short of a disaster. General manager John Idzik is refusing to commit to anyone as a potential starter despite having 2013 starter Geno Smith and 2012 starter Mark Sanchez both on the roster. Smith certainly had his moments last season, leaving many to believe he will remain the No. 1 quarterback for the Jets for the near future.

However, Idzik will not utter those words out loud and instead has been in the market for a veteran. The team showed interest in McCown and a possible trade for Matt Schaub, but did not make a single move. Now with most of the veteran talent already signed, Vick is the best available.

Vick has said that he would be interested in playing for the Jets. During Super Bowl weekend, the quarterback told the NFL Network that New York was on his list of teams he was interested in. Vick wants a chance to be a starting quarterback next season and the Jets are easily the team that would give him the opportunity. Depending on his contract demands, Vick could sign over the weekend.

The Vick visit once again shows the Jets are ready to move on from Sanchez. After missing a season to a shoulder injury caused by Rex Ryan, Smith took the quarterbacks place and now Sanchez is likely the odd man out. The Jets owe the quarterback a $2 million roster bonus by next Tuesday. How convenient they bring in Vick just before that.

The Jets have no intentions of paying Sanchez that money. If the Vick visit goes well, they will simply release the quarterback. There is zero trade interest surrounding the quarterback, but if he is released, Sanchez instantly becomes the best available and team will sign him within the week.
