The Washington Redskins have been very active in free agency this offseason and now names like Kenny Britt, Ryan Clark, Brian de la Puente, Thomas DeCoud, Chris Clemons and Jared Allen all could be targets for the team as the free agent signing period continues.
The Redskins brought in Andre Roberts as another receiver behind Pierre Garcon and they also visited with Kenny Britt and he could be another addition to the roster. According to ESPN.com, the Redskins are starting to looks towards the offensive line and Brian de la Puente is an option, as they released Will Montgomery last week and he was the starting center on the team last season. The Redskins signed Shawn Lauvao at the start of free agency and now they could look at de la Puente, who has also had interest from the Green Bay Packers and the New York Giants. While de la Puente did not play in 2009 and 2010, but he was solid during the first half of the season for the Saints last year and he earned the starting job over time and now he could cash in with the Redskins.
The team also brought in Mike McGlynn for a free agent visit and he can play both center and guard and he could come in if de la Puente signs with another team. The Redskins had issues on the offensive line last season, giving up too many sacks and allowing Robert Griffin III to get hit too much and while they are coming back with Trent Williams and Kory Lichtensteiger, adding some more beef on the line would be a good move and they have the money to handle it under the salary cap.
The Redskins also added some solid depth with Akeem Jordan at linebacker and that should help bolster the defense after the way they played last season. ESPN.com is reporting that Britt's visit with the team was a positive one and while they brought in Roberts, they still could add Britt behind Garcon and Santana Moss and if he signs elsewhere, they could look to Sidney Rice or Darrius Heyward-Bey as other options. The Redskins made some major moves with Jason Hatcher coming over from the Dallas Cowboys and while he is getting on the older side of his career, he had a personal best 11 sacks last season along with 41 tackles.
Bringing back Brian Orakpo was big and now the team could look to the secondary on the free agent market, as Thomas DeCoud, Chris Clemons, Mike Adams and Ryan Clark are still on the market and while Clark visited, he also has interest from the NY Jets and other teams. The Redskins are coming off of a disappointing 3-13 season that saw Kirk Cousins starting by the end of things and fans are excited for RG3 to get back onto the field and this year he will be ditching the knee brace. The team ranked 20th in the league in passing yards allowed per game with over 240 yards and they are hoping for a bounce back year with Jay Gruden coming in.
