Surprise, surprise. Brown's QB Colt McCoy is on the trading block after all. The third year QB's future has been in question since the Browns spent a first round selection on 29 year-old Brandon Weeden in this past April's draft.
Weeden is expected to be an immediate starter in Cleveland, which obviously leaves little room for the third year McCoy.
The former Longhorn completed 265 passes in 2011 for a total of 2,733 yards and 14 TDs. He played in and started 13 games.
It appears that Cleveland has decided to discontinue their investment in the still developing QB, but intend to do what's best for both the club and the player.
During a recent press conference, head coach Mark Holmgren expressed the franchise's desire to find a good fit for McCoy and it was insinuated that the team will not be looking to reap a hefty profit from a potential trade.
If McCoy can find a new home before training camp begins, there may be a good chance that he can continue his role as a starter as soon as this coming season.
One club that may offer the best immediate opportunity is Jacksonville. The Jaguars unsuccessfully attempted to acquire Tim Tebow after he was placed on the trading block after Peyton Manning signed in Denver.
The Jaguars do not appear to be completely sold on what Blaine Gabbert can do for them in the long run and perhaps they too may wish to cut the development of their young QB short.
