The New York Jets have some issues on defense, especially when it comes to the cornerback position. Relying on youth last season had its ups and downs and now the Jets are in desperate need to add some depth to the position. However, the team failed to sign two of the marquee cornerback free agents, leaving everyone in the Jets camp a little upset.
The best option for New York is to re-sign Antonio Cromartie. The Jets opted to let the veteran test the free agent market for a better deal and as he remains unsigned by any team, the Jets would be wise to simply bring him back. Linebacker Calvin Pace went through a similar situation as Cromartie and after he returned to the team, he thinks the cornerback should do the same.
"Yeah. Yes and no. Don't get me wrong, we have some players on the roster that still can go out and get the job done," Pace said, via the New York Daily News. "Hopefully we can get (Cromartie) back. I hope that is still in the plans."
Right now, the Jets are putting all of their eggs in the Dee milliner basket. While the rookie had some solid moments last season, he also had his share of beginners struggles which caused him to be benched multiple times. Milliner finished the year with 56 tackles and three interceptions. Many predicted the Jets would make a move in free agency, but the blew two good shots.
First, New York missed out on bringing back Darrelle Revis. Pace noted that he would have loved for his former teammate to return, but he understands the Patriots are an enticing opportunity. The Jets met with their former cornerback star and tried to saw him to sign, but lost in the end.
The Jets also met with Dominique Rodgers Cromartie and Aqib Talib at the start of free agency. Both cornerbacks went elsewhere. According to Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News, Ryan is "so pissed" about the lack of defensive moves the Jets have made this offseason, especially at the cornerback position.
Mehta reports that the Jets are not being very aggressive when it comes to bringing back Cromartie despite the veteran being all that is left. If New York is not careful, they will be left taking another shot on a rookie.
