NY Jets Trade Rumors: DeSean Jackson From Eagles, Mark Sanchez Release Options As Michael Vick Free Agent Target Over Josh Freeman

The NY Jets are being mentioned in trade rumors this offseason and now a DeSean Jackson deal with the Philadelphia Eagles has been speculated about, while a Mark Sanchez trade or release could be in the works as Michael Vick is set to make a visit to New York and he could be the new competition for Geno Smith from the free agent market over Josh Freeman and Matt Flynn.

The news about Jackson came out last week and while the Eagles are not actively shopping the speedy wide receiver, the team said it will listen to offers and so far they have had calls from a number of teams, including the New England Patriots and San Francisco 49ers. ESPN.com posits about the Jets and a possible trade for Jackson, as many fans have asked whether the team could be in the mix on a deal despite already signing Eric Decker to a contract this offseason. As that goes on, ESPN.com is also reporting that Michael Vick is coming in for a visit with the team and he is an option to sign at quarterback as competition with Geno Smith for the starting job next season.

Vick has long been rumored as a target for the Jets and this comes as the team must decide what to do about Mark Sanchez, as he is set to get a roster bonus on March 25 and that means a move may be coming soon. The Oakland Raiders have expressed interest in Sanchez, who missed all of last season after getting injured in a meaningless game that Rex Ryan kept him in for no good reason. The team is likely to cut or trade him this offseason and signing Vick would be a step in that direction.

Vick is 34 years old and he has been linked to the Oakland Raiders and Buffalo Bills and it's unlikely that he will be returning to the Eagles. The Jets may act like they don't "need" Vick, but they kind of do, as Sanchez is very close to being gone and their only other option if they don't get him or get rid of Sanchez is to convince the quarterback to take a pay cut instead. Either way, the Jets are looking to add Vick and if they do, he would have a legitimate chance to start, because that was one thing the QB wanted out of free agency and where he would sign.

The Jackson move is very unlikely and part of that is due to the $30.5 million left on his contract over the next three years and he is also making $10.5 million next season. He caught 82 passes for 1,332 yards and nine touchdowns to lead the team last season, but Chip Kelly has had issues with Jackson in the past and ESPN.com writer Dan Graziano speculates that this is a power move from Kelly and if he doesn't want Jackson back, he will get moved. The Niners and the Patriots have the draft picks to make a trade and with the Jets signing Decker, this could be a bit much to ask for.
