The news regarding DeSean Jackson continues to sway back and forth. One minute he and the Philadelphia Eagles are on the outs and the next he is tweeting teammates saying he will be with the team next season. The situation continues to get ever weirder as general manager Howie Roseman and head coach Chip Kelly remain non-committal on Jackson's status with the team. One person that appears to support the wide receiver is Michael Vick.
According to Jackson, he is staying with the Eagles. The wide receiver tweeted out a photo of he and Kelly after the two had a meeting following all of the rumors. Now according to Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer, Jackson has been assuring teammates that he will be in Philadelphia come next season and that no trade will happen. Who knows if that is true, because every time Kelly discusses the situation, he throws in a "but" with every statement.
"I like DeSean, . . . but we are gonna do what's best for the team," Kelly said, via Geoff Mosher of CSNPhilly.com. "I don't have an answer for you."
Of course several teams are expressing interest in a potential trade for Jackson. The Eagles have reportedly put a second-round draft pick price tag on the receiver which is drawing attention from teams like the San Francisco 49ers and New York Jets. One new member of Jets would love to see his former teammate come to the Big Apple, but Vick says he supports Jackson no matter what.
"If it does happen for DeSean, it's something that he has to embrace, something he may have to learn from, depending on whether he wants to leave or not," Vick said, via ESPN.com. "Regardless, I'm going to support him. He's always been a great friend of mine and a great football player. And I think highly of him. I give him my utmost support."
Vick says that he trusts Kelly to do the right thing for both the team and Jackson. It was reported the head coach was playing a role in the trade talks for Jackson after being unhappy with the attitude of the wide receiver, but Vick says that is not true.
"Chip Kelly is a leader," Vick said. "You have to understand Chip Kelly to know what type of person he is and be around him. He's not a bad person by any stretch. But certain organizations want things done a certain way."
If a deal for Jackson is going to be made, it will be during the NFL Draft, much like Darrelle Revis last year. Time will tell just how committed the Eagles are to their top offensive producer.
