The Philadelphia Flyers and NY Rangers are playing on Wednesday night and the two teams come into the game one point apart in the standings and the matchup on the NBC Sports Network will be streaming live from MSG starting up at 8 pm ET in New York for the eastern division rivalry.
The Rangers come into the game second in the metro division and they are making a hard playoff push after trading for Martin St. Louis and the team is coming into the matchup after a win in overtime against the Phoenix Coyotes and they will next play against the Calgary Flames on Friday night on the road. The Rangers have been playing better on the power play as of late and they come into the game ranked sixth in the NHL in goals against and they are 18th in scoring and they are now in the top 10 in penalty kill percentage and that will come in handy on Wednesday night.
Mats Zuccarello is leading the team in points and he has been very solid all year and now the rangers will try and get past their rivals to stay in second place in the standings in the division behind the Penguins. Philly comes into the game after a tough loss against the LA Kings and after playing against the Rangers they will matchup with the Toronto Maple Leafs. The team has been scoring in bunches and they are ranked in the top 10 in the league with nearly three goals per game and they are giving up the same amount to come in 17th in goals against. The team is in the top 10 in both penalty kill and power play percentage and that means the special teams battles will be great on Wednesday.
The Rangers have been playing very well against the Flyers at home as of late and over the past seven matchups at the Garden with Philly, the team has won all of them and they have not allowed more than two goals in any of those contests. The game will likely turn on that stat and with the playoffs coming, the wild card race could get heated and the Rangers hope to stay out of it.
Right now the two teams would meet in the playoffs and the Rangers would get the home advantage based on the pints and records right now, but that could change over the next stretch and that makes this game even more important for both teams. Henrik Lundqvist has been playing some fantastic hockey and he has started in the last seven victories and that makes the matchup even more pressure packed and the Rangers are looking to stay hot, going 7-3-0 over the last 10 games.
