The NBA Playoffs standings for the east and west in 2014 has the Indiana Pacers and Miami Heat battling for home court advantage, while the San Antonio Spurs have the best record in their conference and have won 14 games in a row and are looking strong as the postseason gets closer.
The Pacers have been in the top position in the eastern conference for nearly the entire season and the Miami Heat have been closing in as of late with Indiana struggling and going 6-4 while losing two in a row, but they shook that against Miami on Wednesday. The Heat and the Pacers are far and away the two best teams in the east and they have a double digit lead over the Toronto Raptors and the Chicago Bulls in the standings.
The Brooklyn Nets have pulled out of their early season struggles and they are right in the mix in the middle of the standings, while the Washington Wizards, Charlotte Bobcats and Atlanta Hawks are the bottom three teams that are currently in the playoffs. The New York Knicks are closing the gap on the Hawks, but after losing to the Lakers they could be in danger of missing the playoffs and that comes as they start a five game road trip. The Cavaliers and Pistons also are in reach of that final playoff spot, but they will need some help to make it.
The west has a number of teams that easily would make the playoffs if they were in the east, but the Dallas Mavericks and Minnesota Timberwolves could both finish over .500 and not make it in. The Spurs are first in the west over the OKC Thunder and the Los Angeles Clippers, while the Houston Rockets and Portland Trail Blazers are next in the standings. Golden State, Memphis and Phoenix are the last three in right now, while the Mavericks are ninth in the conference.
