Kenny Britt has made plenty of visits during free agency and has yet to sign with a team. He has been on the verge of getting deals from teams like the New England Patriots, Washington Redskins and Buffalo Bills. However, the veteran remains without a contract and is left to weigh his options before the NFL Draft that is deep in his position.
The St. Louis Rams are the latest team to almost offer Britt a contract, but hold off. The wide receiver is coming off a career-worst season with the Tennessee Titans. Britt put up just 96 yards off 11 catches and did not record a touchdown. He had multiple disagreements with the Titans' coaching and was benched several times throughout the season. That does not pair well for a solid free agency run.
According to NFL sources per ProFootballTalk.com, Britt has said he is weighing his options about where to play next season after several failed deals. He is favoring the Rams, but mainly because they are the only team in the hunt right now. Rams general manager Les Snead said the chances St. Louis signs the wide receiver are greater than 50 percent, but after 48 hours since the visit, nothing has happened.
To make matters worse, head coach Jeff Fisher told the media that he was happy with the current set of wide receivers the Rams have. He has been pleased with players like Brian Quick, Stedman Bailey and Tavon Austin and expects improvement from Austin Pettis. So while many have the Rams penciled in to grab Britt or a rookie like Sammy Watkins, they might stay put with the current roster.
So where does that leave Britt? The San Francisco 49ers might be his best option at this point before the draft comes in May. Jim Harbaugh has said multiple times that he wants to add one more playmaker for quarterback Colin Kaepernick after being disappointed in the production last year. Harbaugh said injuries to Michael Crabtree hurt the pass game and he wants one more receiver for depth.
The 49ers could easily just go to the draft for help at the position. 2014 is deep in wide receivers. Watkins and Mike Evans are expected to go in the first round, but the later rounds will be filled with solid names like Kelvin Benjamin or Marqise Lee.
The Oakland Raiders are an option for Britt. The team needs as many playmakers as they can get after lacking a top receiver last season. The Jacksonville Jaguars could also be in play with the uncertainty around Justin Blackmon.
