The NY Mets and Toronto Blue Jays are playing more than an exhibition game in Montreal on Friday night at 7:05 pm ET, as the Montreal Expos and great Met Gary Carter and a number of other players will be honored, as the matchup is the first Major League Baseball game in the Canadian City at Olympic Stadium since the team moved to Washington DC and it will be streaming live online.
Gary Carter was beloved by the Mets and the Expos and now he will be honored after his dead and his family will be in attendance as the man who went into the Hall of Fame in Cooperstown in an Expos jersey gets his local due. A number of players from some of the great Expos teams will also be honored and the game is the first since 2004 when baseball left the city and went down south. There will be two exhibition games going on the Blue Jays are participating since they are the lone Canadian team left and they are hoping to pick up some fans in the process and the games sold very well and could sell out by the time the first pitch goes.
The Mets come into the game looking to get on track heading into the season and fans are very anticipated for this season after the team finally spent some money on Curtis Granderson and Bartolo Colon and they are coming in after a loss, fittingly enough, against the Washington Nationals and now they will play in the stadium where that team used to be. The team has two against the Blue Jays and then they will head home for the season. The Mets are hoping this season is more of a success and that they can keep their own fans interested partly through the summer, which was not the case last year and without Matt Harvey, that could mean trouble in the rotation as well.
The team comes in after being very offensively challenged last season and they ranked in the bottom part of the league in every category, including runs and batting average as well as on base and slugging percentage. The pitching was better, but the team lost Matt Harvey and now he will be out all season with Tommy John surgery. The Blue Jays come in after a win against the Phillies and they are looking to play some good ball as well, as they could pick up some Canadian fans yammering for baseball and they comes in after being in the top 10 last season in runs and in the top 15 in batting average and they ranked eighth in slugging percentage.
