Mar 30, 2014 03:14 PM EDT

The IndyCar season gets going with the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg and the race is streaming from ABC online at 3 pm and has Takuma Sato in the pole position and comes before Long Beach next week and the 1.8 mile street course has the Verizon IndyCar Series is ready to go on Sunday.

The weather this weekend was rough and there was a near four hour delay from the qualifying and that left Sato with the first pole in 2014 and he now has the chance to start off the season on the right track. This comes as his fourth pole in his career and it comes at a track that he has driven well at before and last year he came in the front row in qualifying and he finished in the eighth spot in the race and he also won in Long Beach and this could set him up for another nice run and he also had a nice performance in Brazil and led into the last lap. Tony Kanaan ended up next in the qualifying despite having a spin and now he is second ahead of Ryan Hunter-Reay and Will Power.

The Honda Indy Grand Prix of Alabama comes after the Grand Prix of Long Beach and then down the line is the Grand Prix of Indianapolis before the Indianapolis 500 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway on May 25 and that starts up after 12 pm noon. Ryan Briscoe comes in after performing well in practice and that could mean a nice performance on Sunday and it comes after the conditions were rough heading into the day and Scott Dixon comes in as the defending IndyCar Series champion and he will be looked at as a contender, as he finished second at the race three times in his career. Helio Castroneves has won three times at the race and Power is looked at as one of the favorites as well after starting off in the top five and now the top race drivers are looking to start the season with a high note performance.

Juan Pablo Montoya comes in at 18th after being out for a decade and the race gets started up in a number of weeks before the Indy 500 and that is of course the biggest one of the year and it's coming in just over a month. James Hinchcliffe took the race last year after Castroneves won the year before and Power comes in after winning it four years ago and everyone is hoping that the weather stays good enough for things to complete on Sunday and the race is expected to be a tight one from the top of the line.
