Mar 31, 2014 11:32 AM EDT

The MLB Opening Day schedule starts off early on Monday for 2014 and the baseball season openers are airing on TV from ESPN and ESPN2 and has some great matchups for March 31, as the Chicago Cubs and Pittsburgh Pirates start things off and that is the early game at 1 pm and live from the WatchESPN website and comes before teams like the Boston Red Sox, NY Mets, Washington Nationals, St. Louis Cardinals, Detroit Tigers and Atlanta Braves start their seasons.

The Cubs and Pirates start things off and this comes as the Cubbies try and rebound from a rough season and they have Jeff Samardzija going against Pitt and this comes after the Pirates made their first playoff appearance in 20 years last season and they counter with Francisco Liriano on the day. The Kasnas City Royals are looking at the playoffs this year and they matchup with the Detroit Tigers for one of the best pitching duels, as they have James Shields going up against Justin Verlander on Monday for the first game of the season.

The Washington Nationals and the NY Mets are meeting at Citi Field in one of the early games and that will have Stephen Strasburg matching up with Dillon Gee after Matt Harvey went down for the season. The Philadelphia Phillies and the Texas Rangers face off with Cliff Lee pitching against his old team, while the Boston Red Sox start their defense of the World Series against the Baltimore Orioles and that will be in Camden Yards with Chris Tillman and Jon Lester.

The St. Louis Cardinals and the Cincinnati Reds continue the tradition of Opening Day in Cincy and that has Adam Wainwright and Johnny Cueto facing off. The rest of the schedule has the Twins and White Sox playing, while the Rockies and Marlins play in Florida and the San Francisco Giants play the Arizona Diamondbacks, while the Blue Jays and Rays are also playing. The Mariners and Angels are the late game with the Indiana's and Oakland A's.
