The Baltimore Orioles and Detroit Tigers are playing live on Friday from Comerica Park and the game at 1:08 pm ET will be streaming from the MLB.com website and has two American League teams looking to get off to nice starts and the pitching matchup has Anibal Sanchez taking on Miguel Gonzalez as the AL rivals battle.
The Orioles have been one of the best offensive teams in the big leagues the past couple years and the Tigers have been one of the best pitching teams and now that will match up with each other on Friday. The three-game series comes after the Orioles went 1-2 against the Boston Red Sox, while the Detroit Tigers won two games against the Kansas City Royals before the third game was rained out and now Sanchez will take the mound after having the best ERA in the league last season. Max Scherzer won the Cy Young and Justin Verlander gets all the press, but Sanchez had over 200 strikeouts last season and now he comes in looking to do the same.
The Orioles scored seven runs in their series and Felix Doubront beat the O's on Thursday and now they face off against Sanchez before a matchup with Rick Porcello. The team won the first game of the series with the Sox before losing the next two and now they hope to pull even with the game against the Tigers on Friday. Detroit has been off to a slow start offensively, but it has been enough to win games and now the team is in position to stay undefeated with the home series coming against Baltimore.
The Tigers come into the season looking to get back to the World Series after losing in the American League playoffs and they made some major moves in the offseason to get that done, making a number of trades and also bringing back Cy Young winner Max Scherzer on a one year deal while they negotiate a long term extension. The pitching is expected to be top notch again despite trading Doug Fister, as the team has three great players at the front of the rotation with Justin Verlander, Scherzer along with Anibal Sanchez, who set a career high in wins last season and also had a great ERA.
The Tigers signed star Miguel Cabrera to a new extension worth nearly $300 million and that locks him up for his career most likely and that came after a major move in the offseason when the Tigers traded Prince Fielder to the Rangers for Isn Kinsler, which upgraded a need position at second base and also got rid of a huge contract on the payroll, which opened up the team to signing back Cabrera despite free agency being just two years away.
