The Seattle Mariners host the LA Angels as they have their home opener at Safeco Field and the matchup at 10:10 pm ET on the MLB baseball schedule and the pitcher for the M's will be James Paxton and he is making his second start of the season after dealing against Los Angeles last week.
The Mariners have had a promising start to the season with a 4-2 road trip to begin the year and it comes as Seattle has high expectations after Robinson Cano signed in the offseason. Players like Justin Smoak, Dustin Ackley and Brad Miller have started off well and the team is looking to get to the playoffs for the first time since 2001 and adding Cano was huge after they were able to keep King Felix as well. The team comes in after a loss to the Oakland A's and Erasmo Ramirez started that game and now the team has another homegrown starter on the hill on Paxton.
The team has had to deal with injuries to Hisashi Iwakuma and Taijuan Walker and so far they have been able to overcome them and they come into the game ranked in the top 10 in runs with 34 and they are fourth in slugging percentage in the early goings and they are 13th in batting average and 16th in on base percentage. The pitching has been excellent so far, especially in the starting rotation and while yes, it's early, the team is ranked in the top 10 in quality starts and ERA and they also are in the top three in WHIP and batting average allowed through the first week of the year.
The Mariners feel that adding Cano can be enough to turn things around and they face an Angels team that is ranked fifth in runs this season and eighth in slugging percentage. The team is coming in after a win against the Houston Astros and they have been struggling pitching so far, putting up three quality starts and they are 3-4 on the season so far.
