Derek Jeter Milestones 2014: Last Home Opener In New York As Yankees SS Passes Paul Molitor On All-Time Hit List

New York Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter is sure to have his fair share of milestones in 2014 as he goes through his final season in the MLB and on Sunday he set another one, moving into eighth on the all-time hit list ahead of Paul Molitor after getting two hits against the Toronto Blue Jays ahead of the Yankees' home opener at the Stadium.

Jeter now has 3,320 hits in his career and that put him ahead of Molitor, who is already in the Hall of Fame. Jeter put a hit down in the third inning to tie him on the list and that came on a single that went into right field and later on in the game he put one past the first baseman and that put him ahead of Molitor. When Jeter got hit number 3,000, he immediately got past the mark as that was during a 5-for-5 game that saw him also hit a home run.

The Yankees legend and future Hall of Famer announced that he would be retiring after this season and he has a number of other milestones that are in reach. Jeter is now just 99 hits behind the next player on the list in former Triple Crown winner Carl Yastrzemski and 110 behind Honus Wagner and if Jeter remains healthy all season those two players could be within reach.
