After a rough start to the season, the Texas Rangers are looking like their usual self and now seeking their second-straight win over the Boston Red Sox. The Rangers were looking extremely sloppy to start the year, but after tightening up on defense and getting the bats moving, the team has the chance to split even on their road trip.
The Rangers' first game against Boston was a rough one. The team lost 5-1 on Monday after giving up three runs in the eighth innings and going 0 for 8 with runners in scoring position. Meanwhile, Prince Fielder froze at the plate, going 0 for 4. However, they picked things up on Tuesday knocking five double plays in the first six innings for the 10-7 win. They improve to 6 for 14 with runners in scoring position while garnering 13 hits in the process.
Fielder is expected to get his bat moving in this matchup against Boston as the Red Sox send Jake Peavy to the mound. Fielder is 10 for 36 with four doubles against the starting pitcher. He is batting .348 in his career at Fenway Park with five home runs. That has not been on display this series, but Tuesday's improvement gives some hope. Peavy looked strong in his first start this season, allowing one solo home run and one other run in six innings against Milwaukee. He did not factor into the loss.
The Rangers will send Robbie Ross to the mound who looked strong in his first time up as a starting pitcher. He gave up three runs off seven hits while striking out seven in five innings. The Rangers bailed him out getting three runs in the ninth innings for the win over the Phillies. He will have to face Mike Napoli and Grady Sizemore who are a combined 11 for 18 this series.
