The Miami Dolphins are heading into a very important draft and after previous reports that the Philadelphia Eagles wanted to trade for first round pick Dion Jordan, the team could look to snag some extra picks by trading him and Daniel Thomas to the Eagles, as the Fins have signed Knowshon Moreno and could look at names like Carlos Hyde, De'Anthony Thomas, Tre Mason, Andre Williams and Jeremy Hill in the upcoming draft.
The Dolphins have a new general manager in Dennis Hickey and they have a straight draft coming after not getting any compensatory picks and they currently have their main roster of picks they were awarded for where they finished last season. According to ESPN.com, the team could look to trade Thomas after the season he had last year since they signed Moreno already and there has been talk that Chris Johnson could be an option as well. According to Pro Football Talk, the Eagles made an offer for Jordan, but that was rejected.
Earlier in the offseason the Dolphins had been shopping Jordan and the team had offers from the Eagles, but that was rejected. The report said that the Eagles offered a draft pick and linebacker for Jordan, but Miami was not satisfied after Jordan was a first round pick last season in the top five. The Dolphins were not happy with his production last season, but they also realize that they traded up for that pick. While it was Jeff Ireland and not Hickey who made the move to trade up with the Raiders last year for Jordan, he still can see the value in a top three pick and they won't give up Jordan for nothing.
Chip Kelly loves Jordan from their time at Oregon and his last year with the Ducks was the most productive season ford Jordan and he may feel that another go around could be productive in the NFL. The Eagles have been active this offseason and they already traded for Darren Sproles from the Saints. The Dolphins may look to the draft for more support, as names like Carlos Hyde, Tre Mason, Andre Williams and Jeremy Hill all could be available.
Last season the team ranked 26th in the league in rushing yards per game with just 90 on the ground on average and they will try and improve that. The team gave up the most sacks of anyone in the league and adding Branden Albert will help that and the rushing game. Hyde comes in after rushing for over 1,500 yards, while Mason was over 1,800 and each could be available in the second round of the draft.
Last season Thomas had just 406 yards and four touchdowns, while Miller was a bit better with 709 yards and two scores on the season and both could use to boost their production. The Dolphins also have Mike Gillislee and Marcus Thigpen, so if they are looking to draft a back in May, they easily could get rid of Thomas and still be okay at the position and that is one area Hickey could look to get a draft pick back if they want to make a deal.
