Newcastle are stepping up their interest in France full-back Mathieu Debuchy after Lille confirmed they had received a bid while the Premier League Club have also bid for Dutch striker Luuk de Jong.
Newcastle had a surprising good run last season, just missing out on Champions League qualification and finishing a commendable fifth. Coach Alan Pardew was named manager of the year and now the Englishman is keen on strengthening his squad as they look to build on last year's success.
Debuchy has been the best right-back at Euro 2012 and with reported interest from the likes of Chelsea, inter Milan and Bayern Munich growing, Newcastle have quickly moved to try and secure the Frenchman's signature.
Lille president Rudi Garcia confirmed they have received a bid, but said it is much lower than their valuation, which is understood to be 6 million pounds ($9.3 million).
"He is torn between staying with us and playing in the Champions League in our new stadium or going elsewhere," said Garcia.
"If he does go and it is a sporting progression, then we will be happy to see him evolve -- but we have not planned to replace him.
"But I do believe that Newcastle have faxed an offer of 4million pounds -- but they must have the wrong player," Garcia joked.
Newcastle have also reportedly made an 8 million pound ($12.5 million) bid for FC Twente hot-shot De Jong. The 21-year-old has scored 39 goals in 76 games with his time in Twente and has previously admitted he is open to move on to a bigger league.
It is understood, Twente are expecting 12 million pounds ($18 million) for the player. With Demba Ba rumored to be on his way, Pardew will be desperate to find a replacement as quickly as possible.
Swansea and Liverpool target Gylfi Sigurdsson has been given extra time by parent club Hoffenheim to sort out his future. Swansea had a bid accepted by the German club, but the move was put on hold after Brendan Rodgers moved to Liverpool.
It is understood new manager Michael Laudrup is keen on bringing in Sigurdsson, who shone for the Welsh side in a six-month loan spell last season. Rodgers has admitted his interest in the player, but said will only make a move after Swansea hold discussions with the Icelandic international.
"Gylfi Sigurdsson will not be with TSG 1899 Hoffenheim for the start of pre-season. He has, after consultation, obtained a prolonged holiday until 30th June.
"The club wants the 22-year-old to continue to secure a future in the Premier League.
Hoffenheim coach Markus Babbel said: "Gylfi wants to stay in England and is in negotiations there. Thus, it makes no sense for both sides for him to return to Hoffenheim, perhaps only for a few days.
"If, by the deadline on 30th June, he has done nothing, then he is here and will return to his pre-season with us. We have agreed this with him."
Swansea are also looking at signing Debrecen's Hungarian international Jozsef Varga, according to Sky Sports. The defensive midfielder is reportedly interesting Laudrup and the former Denmark international is likely to give the green light to bring in the 23-year-old Varga.
Meanwhile, Tottenham defender Vedran Corluka is expected to sign for Lokomotiv Moscow, according to the Daily Mail. The Croatian international is deemed surplus to requirements at White Hart Lane and is expected to move with Russia looking like the most likely destination.
West Ham are looking at bringing in Jonas Olsson from West Brom while Aston Villa hope to complete the signing of 19-year-old left-back Massadio Haidara from French club Nancy for 2 million pounds ($3.1 million).
